Urologist and Robotic Surgeon
Originally from Brazil, Flávio is a highly skilled and accomplished urologist who received his education from São Paulo State University. Early on in his career, he found himself drawn to minimally invasive procedures and further developed his passion for robotic surgery and oncology during his time at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, USA.
With his urology training in both Brazil and Australia, Flavio has a wealth of experience and profound expertise in robotic surgery for prostate and kidney cancer alongside stone management with laser. As a natural teacher and mentor, Flávio is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, Surgery, University of Auckland, where he enjoys imparting his vast knowledge and skills to fifth-year medical students.
His achievements in the field have not gone unnoticed, as he was granted a Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons in 2022, in addition to being a fully registered urologist in NZ and a member of both RACS and the Medical Council of New Zealand.
Flavio is also a keen researcher and has presented his papers at the most prestigious urological meetings in the world. In 2017 he completed his Masters degree with a research on kidney transplantation. In the same year, that research received the Best Poster in Session prize during the EAU meeting, in London.
Dr Wikus Vermeulen

Urologist and Robotic Surgeon
Dr Wikus Vermeulen is a distinguished urologist with comprehensive expertise in oncological and reconstructive surgery, kidney stone management, paediatric urology, and endourology, specialising in Robotic surgery. He earned his medical degree with honours from the University of the Free State in 2003, completed his urological training in 2011 to become a Fellow of the College of Urologists of South Africa, and received his Masters in Urology in 2012. He also holds a diploma in Advanced Laparoscopic Techniques from the University of Strasbourg, France, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
With 10 years of private practice experience in South Africa and having provided surgical care in Botswana, Dr. Vermeulen moved to New Zealand in 2021. He is affiliated with several international urology societies and has undergone robotic surgery training in South Africa and Belgium.
Dr Vermeulen has a strong interest in healthcare economics and holds an MBA in international healthcare. His commitment to his field matches his diverse personal interests, including literature, outdoor activities, sports, live music, and BBQ cuisine.
